According to an old proverb, “necessity is often the mother of invention.”

Bruce and Beth Telford found themselves in this situation in 2002.

How a Nutty idea Turned Adversity into Opportunity

Fathers Day and Other Good Reasons to Buy Nuts!

Well folks, June is just full of reasons to buy almonds, pecans and cashews (preferably from us, of course!).  First and foremost, of course, is Fathers Day (June 20th).  Unless your Dad is allergic to nuts, then Sweet Almande has a really large selection of almonds, pecans and cashews just waiting for him.  And given the really large number of flavors we have available, you should be able to find something that he’ll like.  After all, in at least one respect, guys are easy to shop for.  If it’s edible and they like it, they’re happy!

May 12th is National Limerick Day – And We Have a Contest!!

As we mentioned in last month’s newsletter, May 12th is National Limerick Day – and we have indeed decided to have a limerick contest to celebrate (after all, how can anyone resist such a classy and cultured form of poetry???).   Since limericks are fun and irreverent (much like us!), please have fun with this.

Sampling is Fundamental at Sweet Almande

During the last year or so while Covid 19 restrictions have been in place, we haven’t been able to sample our different flavors of almonds like we normally would. And not surprisingly, this has had an impact on sales for our more unusual flavors (like Watermelon, Wild Strawberry, Banana Nut, Sweet Onion Teriyaki, Roasted Garlic and our Roasted, Salted Cashews). I knew that sampling helped with the sales of these flavors, but I hadn’t realized just how much. After all, some of them do sound like we’re pushing the envelope of just what might taste good with an almond. But when someone is skeptical about a flavor and then samples it and goes “Wow, that’s actually really good!” – that’s when you know that sampling works.

Something Completely Different

Did You Know?

Pecan Day, celebrated each year on April 14th, is a day to celebrate the day in 1775 that Thomas Jefferson gave George Washington a pecan tree to plant in his yard in Mount Vernon. However, according to historians, the Native Americans were the first to use pecans for food. Some additional fun facts you can bring up at your next social gathering:

April 14th is National Pecan Day

The United States produces 80% of the world’s pecans. The fats found in pecans are classified as monounsaturated and are recommended for the maintenance of a healthy heart. The nuts are also rich in Vitamin E and the mineral zinc. Pecans actually provide nearly 10 percent of the recommended Daily Value for zinc and one […]

Nut Pairings for March Celebrations

March brings — along with a strange mixture of Spring and Winter weather — many excuses to get together with friends or relatives, especially now that vaccines for Covid 19 are becoming more and more available.  And with baseball season starting (yes, already!),  and March Madness on the horizon, there are even more reasons to enjoy each other’s company – and perhaps have a few malted, fermented beverages (with some nuts!) at the same time.

Cheers to March

Celebrate National Heart Month (and Valentine’s Day) with Chocolate!

It’s not often that one good thing leads to another.

However, that’s precisely the case with chocolate flavored roasted almonds and pecans, both of which are both great sources of good fats. They taste great….and they’re good for you.

Celebrate February with Chocolate

We Have Something for Just About Everyone

This time of year, our thoughts turn to ways to please our loved ones for Valentine’s Day.  And often, the first things we think of are chocolates.  After all, not only is a box of chocolates somewhat traditional, but also – how can you go wrong with chocolate!
